Bokelberg played a major role for the entire run of the Scandal series. He was the Director of Photography for the Pilot, stayed on as DP for the entire 7 seasons, and also directed 10 episodes. When dreaming up the final image of the series, Shonda Rhimes turned to Oliver for inspiration. Bokelberg created a  photograph of Olivia Pope and superimposed it with lettering from the US constitution. This image was turned into a painting and was hung in the Presidential Portrait Gallery to end the series. Today the painting can be found in the collection of the National Museum of African American History in Washington D.C.
